What is Therma Vent?
This is a passive green ventilation system that can be installed under almost any type of roof. It keeps the hot temperatures from passing through into the attic and your house. It stops all 3 ways heat is transferred by stopping releasing and reflecting the heat. It is the only ventilation system that can boast changing attic air temperature from 150 degree down to 103 degrees on a 96 degree day. Check out the Test Cases at ThermaVentilation.com
I Don’t Think I Need More Ventilation
Over 50% of homes in America do not even have industry standard (basic ventilation). Industry Standard Code ventilation on a 96 degree day will have the temperature in your attic between 125-130 degrees. Therma Vent will have that same attic at about 103 degrees. What do you think that temperature difference is doing to your AC unit and Electric bill?
What is the Energy Savings?
This real truth is it depends on your house, but I can tell you what some of our customers are saying. One reported on Google Plus that his energy saving was $100 on a single month on his electric bill, and that was a July where only a few days reached the low 90s. The Return on his investment would be about 8 years. Meaning that in 8 years his saving in electricity would have his investment paid off for the upgrade of the Therma Vent system. Then after that he would keep getting $100 in savings a month that he would keep in his pocket. Check out ThermaVent Testimonials.
Paying for Saving Money why? Plus my House is cool enough
Maybe your home does not need the Therma Vent system, but just because your house stays cool does not mean that you have a healthy house. Proper ventilation is not only to keep your attic cooler, in fact the reason they started ventilation attics is because they were trying to battle mildew and mold. Both of these are created because of improper ventilation, if you insulation is at the floor of your attic you need proper ventilation. You need at least industry standard ventilation which would include a soffit vent (which is located at the bottom of your roof normally where your outside wall and overhang of your roof meet), and a ridge vent (which is located at the highest point of the roof or peak of your roof). Without both a ridge vent and soffit vents you will not have ventilation that can keep mold and mildew from occurring. In fact sometimes industry standard ventilation is not enough to keep mold and mildew from happening. The Therma Vent system will reduce or completely eliminate this possibility.
How Does It Work?
There are 3 ways Heat is transferred: Convective Heat, Radiant Heat, and Direct Heat
This is the hot air that is created by heat, if you think of a turkey in an oven it is the hot air cooking the turkey. What happens if you open the oven door and leave it opened, all the hot air would escape and it would not cook. Now think if you had another door installed at the base of the oven and you opened both the bottom and top oven door, all the heat would escape and the oven even if it was on would not be able to keep the temperature very hot. This is what we do with you attic we install new doors and open them, and the Sun, (which is the oven to your attic) will not be able to keep you attic hot.
Radiant Heat makes that temperature hotter than the outside air temperature. Think about your car sitting in the direct sun for a second, and its 95 degrees outside. Will your car’s inside temperature be hotter than 95 degrees? Yes it will, in fact cars have been tested at over 150 degrees when it’s 95 outside. This is Radiant heat it will go right through glass, wood, metal, plastic, and even air. An effective radiant barrier is one of the only products that can stop of to 97% of the Radiant Heat. Have you seen or even bought a sun visor for your car’s windshield? This is a form of radiant barrier that reflects the sun’s rays radiant heat back out of your car. Not imagine if you have a radiant sun visor and even roll down the windows, do you think your car will be at the same 150 degrees inside; no it will drop that temperature down to around 110-120 degrees.
Direct heat is the transferring of heat passing through one item to another. Take for example your hot coffee cup. Have you ever fill up your paper coffee cup and forgot to put the little cardboard sleeve on it. I did the other day and almost drop my coffee cup it was so hot. Think about this the average hot coffee is 180 degrees, and paper transfers the heat well. The outside of the paper coffee cup will be 160 degrees. That is too hot to touch so by putting cardboard sleeve over you’re your cup you will reduce that temperature down to about 120 degrees. Now if you have a Styrofoam cup with 180 degree coffee the outside of the cup is only about 107 degrees. Why you might ask? The direct heat does not pass through the Styrofoam cup, making Styrofoam great for stopping the direct heat. Please check out ThermaVentilation.com for a more thorough description.
Therma Vent is made up of a Styrofoam panel that has groves in it, and installed with a Radiant barrier. We create a way for the air at the bottom of the roof to come into the Therma Vent and the fresh cooler air will vent through the groves all the way up the Therma Vent under the roof itself and then the hot air will escape through the ridge vent. Also we make a way for the fresh air to go into the attic allowing any hot air in the attic to escape through the ridge vent, this stops the Convective air by way of ventilation, the Radiant Barrier stops the radiant heat by reflecting the radiant heat, and the Styrofoam panel stops the Direct Heat.
