Most metal roofing that you see with a ridge cap has one huge problem to it, it only looks good it does not function, and some might think it doesn’t even look good.  You might ask why does it not work, the reason is simple it does not have any way for air to flow out of the attic because the J channel which is what connects and holds the Ridge Cap that you see from the ground is a solid piece of metal.  This will not allow for any airflow at all, as you can see in our video we have a rather large machine that perforates are metal to allow for airflow.  If a metal roofing company does not have their J channel for their ridge caps run through a machine like this before they install the ridge cap then you will have not airflow and it will only be a nice looking ridge cap.  We have a lot of customers who we install metal roofing for that do not like the look of a ridge cap, but they understand the need for it if the air is escaping out of the attic and out of our under roof ventilation system which I will talk about in other blogs and videos.

In the heart of the historic district in Innsbruck Austria is the world famous Golden Metal Roofing of Maximilian I. Built in 1500 to quiet the rumor that the King was out of money this gold gilded copper shingle roof has 2,657 shingles. It is regilded with gold leaf every several years to keep it vibrant and shiny.

This was Maximilian’s residence and he could be seen often on the balcony with his 3rd wife, Bianca Maria Sforza of Milan. The roof is 52 feet wide and 12 feet tall.  We have put on many copper roofs but we haven’t been asked to gild them in gold…….yet!
